Apple provides Apple Pay as a method of making in-store and in-app (mobile) purchases. For in-store transactions, consumers can use the Near Field Communications (NFC) chip in their iPhone device to make a purchase by simply touching the phone to an NFC compliant terminal. Identity verification is provided by Touch ID, a fingerprint reading application built into the device.

Apple Pay is also available for in-app purchases initiated on the iPhone. Merchants wishing to allow Apple Pay transactions from their native iOS mobile applications will need to build support into their application. The Vantiv eCommerce platform supports Apple Pay as an accepted form of payment. This provides developers with the flexibility to use a common payment infrastructure across their eCommerce web-site and iOS-based applications.
