The business rules around payment facilitation can be complex, so before getting too far down the road of planning your application, we’d encourage you to speak with a Vantiv integration consultant They have lots of experience supporting developers and integrating PayFacs large and small, and they can almost certainly save you time or point out things to watch out for.

A good starting point is to make sure you are in fact a PayFac. You can learn about the PayFac model and understand what differentiates a PayFac from a regular eCommerce or mobile application.

You can also review some of the challenges PayFacs face including

Depending on the size and complexity of your business, and details of your payment requirements, your Vantiv integration consultant can recommend an optimal strategy for integration. Some large PayFacs with specialized needs will prefer to work with Vantiv on direct ISO 8583 based integrations. For most however, Vantiv’s eCommerce platform will be the best payment platform for PayFacs.

The examples shown here assume an integration with  Vantiv’s eCommerce platform. Developers will see that there are two methods of integrating with Vantiv’s eCommerce platform for transaction payments. These include:

  • SDKs – Language specific payment SDKs that abstract Vantiv’s XML-based on-line interface to simplify coding
  • XML integrations  – where developers code directly to our XML spec for maximum flexibility constructing on-line or batch transactions

These integration methods above are independent of the PayFac API used to manage sub-merchants and the  Dynamic Payout XML specification used to fund sub-merchants and other third parties.

Developers should be aware that the Vantiv eCommerce SDK only supports core payment transactions, and it only provides support for the on-line interface. Also, the eCommerce sandbox (used for testing on-line SDK and XML based integrations) does not support the PayFac API for managing sub-merchants.
